Technical terms - Section A

Age - Someone or something's time of existence.

Asynchronous -  Sound that can be heard but occurs offscreen.


Continuity - The state or quality of being continuous.


Convention --What you would expect to see in that particular sub-genre.


Diegetic - Sound that occurs naturally in the story (part of the storyline).


Editing - How a piece of media is put together i.e. transitions.


Ethnicity -The fact or state of belonging to a social group that has a common national or cultural tradition.


Gender - Refers to the socially constructed roles i.e. masculine and feminine.


Genre - A category of characterised by similarities.


Mise-en-scene - Arrangement of scenery and properties to represent the location of the piece of media.


Narrative - Layers to enhance a story


Non-diegetic - Sound that doesn't occur naturally i.e. music or narration. 


Propp - Came up with the theory of  characters i.e. villains and heroes.


Regional Identity - Refers to the certain area/ location someone is from


Representation  -  The act of representing or the state of being represented.


Sexuality - persons sexual orientation or preference 


Shot type - The positioning/angle of the camera.


Stereotype - A generalisation of an individual or group of people.


Subgenre - A subcategory within a particular genre.


Synchronous - Sound that can be heard and it occurs onscreen.


Todorov - Theory that narratives follow a three-part structure.


Verisimilitude - The appearance of being true or real:
