Regional Identity in Doc Martin.

Regional Identity means how the clip/media indicates what region the area is in and what region the people are from.

In this clip, regional identity can be seen to show the type of place that this clip was taken in. The clothes (suit) of the Doc shows that he is professional as he appears to be the only main character wearing the suit. This shows that Doc Martin has authority over the people of the town and the workmen. As he is wearing a suit, people know to go to him if they need anything related to the Doctors.

When the pipe burst, the plumber's dad is seen just relaxing and being laid back. Compared to that of Doc Martin who is seen worrying and panicking. This shows that people in the regional area are more laid back and appear to not really have many cares in the world. Whereas people from the city (Doc Martin) are more panicky and stressful.

In this scene, a young women is seen wearing bright and colourful clothes. This shows that she is one of the only ones who is of the young generation and shows that the people who live in this area are all traditional and wear more mature clothing.

The buildings seen as the Doc is walking to the Police Station show that the surrounding area is traditional and that of the older appearance. This indicates that the regional area in which the scene is set would not be somewhere in the city but rather somewhere away from the busy lives of today's people.

When the Doc is near the Police station, the regional identity of the area is shown in the background. Hills and free space can be seen. This shows that the area isn't near the city so therefore, it isn't as chaotic or busy as it would be if it was near the city. In this scene, people are seen walking down the street. This indicates that they haven't got to stress about working and are able to go for a nice stroll around the area. As Doc Martin gets closer to the police station, an old couple are seen sitting on a bench. This also shows that they have free time and are able to just relax and enjoy the day without having any stresses.

The Police Officer is seen wearing a tie and jumper. This indicates that is has some authority due to the fact he is wearing a specific uniform with a badge on it that says 'Police'. This is done to show that he is of an importance in keeping the town safe.

When Doc Martin gets confronted by a women, cars are seen in the background. These cars are seen to not be moving but are instead parked on the roads. This indicates that there isn't much traffic and not a lot of people to cause a hold up. As the women and Doc Martin continue to walk down the road, people are seen walking to a bench and sitting down. This indicates that they have free time and have a laid back personality as they haven't got to be anywhere.

When the Doc reaches a school, he stops by the small fence and is easily able to see what is happening in the classroom. This would not be the same in the city as the environment would be busy and allow for people to watch what the children are doing. As the area is laid back, they do not feel the need to leave a big space between the window and the fence like they would do in the city.
