Shot types in Doc Martin

At the beginning of the clip, a master shot is used to show the limit of the actions that are about to occur. This shot reinforces the status' of each individual by the positioning of each person. The shot taken consists of the Doc, a plumber and his son. The Doc has highest authority so is found standing tallest and then the plumber is found the next tallest and lastly the plumber's son who is found in the shortest position.

There are medium close ups that take place during this scene. One is of the son when he replies to his father and another one is when the women replies to the plumber's son after he answers the phone. As they have a conversation, a shot reverse shot is used to show that they are talking to each other and helps show the reaction of both of the people involved in the conversation.

Another master shot is taken after the phone call to show that the next part of the scene will show the limit of the action.

An establishing shot is used when Doc Martin takes the dog to the police station. This shot is used to show the viewer where the village is (sound and background) and used to establish where the next scene will occur.

A medium close up is taken when the Doc takes the dog into the police station. This shot is taken to show Doc after he hands the dog in.

An establishing shot is taken again when the Doc is walking past the school. This shot is taken to give indication to the viewer that the next scene that will be shot will be at the school.

A medium close up is used when the Doc and the teacher are looking at each other. The shot is focused on Doc as he looks at her. The shot turns back to the teacher as she looks away. The next shot taken is a close up of Doc to show his facial expressions and reactions to the teacher.
